This question should not be difficult to answer, if you read my previous post, where I discussed how to get more from the social media. I ended the post with an assurance to clue in more tips on how to get more from the social media, here we go!
In the recent time, information spreads like wildfire, thanks to the social media. Distribution of news has been so much easier for both the electronic and print media houses to get stories across to their audiences using the online platform.
This works so well in some developing countries where shortage of power supply, low income rates and dwindling reading culture has affected the dissemination of information, by applying the conventional method.
Let me save the topic of dissemination of information till another time. What brought you here is actually how you will gain more from social media. Yes, I understand why you are on this blog post, I am only trying to hint you of what are missing, if you have a media house and you are yet to have a social media presence.
The fastest and cost-efficient way of getting the latest news in this era is through the social media. The edge social media is having against other medium is the mobility.
We carry our smartphones everywhere and it is easy to access latest happenings around the world from any location, provided there is internet connection.
I listen to radio once a day, purposely to listen to press reports from daily newspapers which last for the maximum of 15 minutes. I enjoy TV documentaries, informative programmes, but I cannot move around with my TV set or sit to watch TV beyond 5 minutes during the day. At night, I spare my precious 30 minutes for the late night news, before I retire to bed.
Yet, I remain conversant with event updates and news on time and on a daily basis, because I can access my social media accounts on the go. I get live updates, trending discussions and debates, newsletters and breaking news via different channels of the social media.
News and information are always at your finger tips if you know how to use the social media. The good part of it is that you do not need to get updated at the expense of your work activities by surfing the web to source for information and news.
Almost all of the social media have user friendly Applications, which makes notification easier. You can get live update on events as it happens through notifier applications and the choice to attend to such update is at your own will.
On the other side, you may also use social media platform to broadcast a news or information to people across your network or circle of friends.
Internet is now like a country, where the social media serves as its commercial hub. People post CVs and companies recruit on social media, entrepreneurs setup and advertise businesses on social media.
A lot of businesses are taking to the social media when they realize the cost of setting up a traditional bricks and mortar business, particularly in the retail sector.
Even those who started business conventionally are adopting the social media to increase their sales and brand awareness. I started Phones&Gadgets on the social media and I will still set up more businesses using the same model.
You can market your product, services, brand, expertise to the world through the social media. Though you need to have good number followers or traffic on your page for you to successfully sell your product on social media.
Do not fret! It is not so difficult to drive traffic to your page. If you are building the page organically or through promotion, all you need is proper planning.
Ice Bucket Challenge became a trend which went viral on social media around July, 2014 while people around the world shared videos of their Ice bucket challenge. The challenge was to promote awareness of ALS( Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis),a disorder that involves death in nerval cells; and to raise money for charity.
It was funny how a lot of people took the trend around the world. Let us get it straight, I am not trying to deride those who responded to the challenge, but a whole lot of the people including celebrities that partook in the challenge did not actually know the reasons for the cause; most of them imitated the idea on the social media.
Social media is the channel to keep abreast of the latest trend. A lot of trends were started on social media and has went viral on the same medium. Trends that go viral may generate positive or negative response, but it is certain that social media is one
major force that sparks trend in this generation.
Formal education will make you a living;self-education will make you a fortune -Jim Rohn
Education does not end in the four walls of a classroom, that is my opinion anyway. You may follow my thought and you are also free to disagree, but all I am saying is that you should not limit your education to the college campus, but rather learn from your experience and relationship with the public. Social media becomes the public in this context.
Public debates, arguments, event updates, public awareness, personal experiences, societies, humans and countries are daily contents on the social media.
People learn from discussions, debates and argument. I have also learnt a lot experience from the social media. For instance, I learnt how to set up this website and get this blog informative and educative on social media and from people I met on social media.
Arguably, you can get valuable life time education on the social media, if you subscribe to the right page and follow the right set of people on the social media.
Okay now! After you might have exploited the social media to your advantage, you will realize it is not easy to equally have effective presence in all your social media accounts at the same time, and that is when the social media experts come in.
Imagine keeping more than 20 different passwords with minimum of 6 characters in your head. Yeah, that is weird you will say, but that is my job!
